The protected landscape area Great Fatra makes up the northwestern part of the district Banská Bystrica; its wooded slopes stretch south from Ružomberok to Horný Harmanec.The Križna massive constitutes a characteristic feature. The Harmanec region is the most abundant locality with the common yew in Europe, also the rare Fatran cyclamen occurs here. The visit to the Izbica Cave, national natural monument, situated in the Harmanecka Valley coul be a nice trip for many tourists from home and abroad.

Skiing in the Great Fatra
