The earliest rocks older than the Palaeozoic are gneisses, magmatities and amphibolites found in the Vepor Hills. The elevation point Hrb (1255 m) is the geometrical centre of Slovakia. One part of hills - Poľana, a preserved country area of the UNESCO world biosphere reservation, is especially characteristic by its ecosystems and unique structure of landscape. Deer game of very good quality thrives here (a breeding area).
